Welcome Catherine!

Hey Guys!

As most of you know by now I have recently hired a wonderful young artist, Catherine Krahn. We have commenced training and she is more then excelling. The reason for my need for a second artist was I was just turning too many of you away! With a wait list of over 50 weddings last year and with the wedding season barely started and sitting at over 30, it was due time to get a second set of hands on the scene! As when most of you inquire you are looking for the style and look that I provide for my clients, I wanted to hire an artist who was willing to learn my techniques and practice them on our clients. Catherine comes to us with a great skill level and we've worked together and will continue to work together in training sessions to grow as artists and offer consistency to our clients.

Rather than me going on and on about her I thought I would ask her a few interview type questions to help you better get to know Catherine!

B: When did you first fall in love with makeup?

C: Growing up, I never considered makeup as something with which I could play and experiment. As soon as I started high school and discovered mascara (brown, at first! So natural and oh, how the times have changed!), my obsession quickly spiralled as I started adding eyeliner, foundation, eye shadow, etc! Now, it almost feels like the time when I didn't love makeup never existed!

B: When did you start free-lancing and putting yourself out there to book in your own clients?

C: I started freelancing with my own artistry a year ago. When I first started working at MAC Cosmetics, I began to consider branching out on my own. After I finished my course at Elegance Schools Inc., I actively sought opportunities to grow and help beautify the city! Social media is a big outlet for me, so I set up my own Facebook and Instagram to showcase my work.

B: What is your current work experience in the beauty industry (companies, salons, brands)?

C: I've been working in salons for a little over two years and that is where I found the inspiration to become a makeup artist. The atmosphere is so nurturing for young artists and I've always had a great support team in the salon! I've also be an artist at MAC Cosmetics for almost two years. I love being able to touch and try all the products that MAC has to offer! It's my kind of candy store!

B: What is your favourite part about the makeup application process?

C: My favourite part of the makeup application process is the skin. I love creating that dewey glow with a mix of so many great products. That is the moment that a look really comes together for me and I can finally see what I've been envisioning. Another favourite though is actually the end result! I love to see those happy faces in the mirror as my clients see their transformation!

B: Why did you apply for this position with Makeup by Brittany?

C: I applied to work with Makeup by Brittany because I admired her particular style of makeup. The winged liner, dramatics lashes, and glowing skin are all specific to my style as well, so I knew it would be a good fit! Plus, Brittany's application is flawless! And if you're going to learn, why not learn from the best?

B: Where are you from?

C: I am born and raised in London, Ontario!

B: Lipstick, bronzer or brows? Yes. You can only pick one! (I'm terrible, I know.)

C: How could I possibly choose just one?! Brittany knows I love all three equally but I would have to pick... brows! I love playing with brow shape and thickness. It is amazing how changing the brows can change the entire face!

B: What is your current favourite product to use on yourself and clients alike?

C: My current favourite is an e.l.f. product! The e.l.f. Studio HD Mattifying Cream Foundation is perfect for contouring after foundation because it blends beautifully into the skin and gives the perfect sun-kissed glow! Plus, you can't beat the price!

B: Describe your personal style in three words ;)

C: Classic, chic, and... Pink!

B: What is the most exciting part about this new venture in your makeup career?

C: I'm mostly excited to take this city by storm, beautifying everywhere we go! I know that my partnership with Brittany will grow into something amazing!

Let's give a warm welcome to Catherine and wish her all the best with her future in this industry! We are currently working on building Catherine for Makeup by Brittany on Facebook and Instagram (catformakeupbybrit) so please, share the love and give us a follow there!

One-on-One Consultations

Hey Guys!

So recently requests for lessons/one on one consults have really gone through the roof, so thank you! For those that are unaware here is some info...

1st-Hour Private Makeup and Skincare Consultation/Lesson ~ $85

During the first hour I see where you are at in terms of the products you have, the products you need, skill set and comfort with makeup, etc. This initial hour is vital and is usually one of the most informative as we look through your makeup bag together and determine the missing holes and suitable, affordable/in your budget fillers.

After that we can do 3 hours for $220 (which is over $10 less per hour), using your three hours however you would like. I usually suggest 1.5 and 1.5 as you will see, an hour flies by!

(these prices are subject to change)

This was a review I recently recieved from a client...

After having a make up application done by Brittany for my wedding anniversary I just knew I wanted more! When she mentioned she did make up lessons I booked a few appointments right away. Yesterday, I had my first lesson and I was not disappointed. From start to finish Brittany  was so professional, keeping to her lesson and making sure I understood what she was saying so I would get the most out of the lesson. We covered so much in one lesson and I really appreciated how she took a look at my products to see what I could include to benefit my   look. She gave suggestions on products I needed that are inexpensive and amazing products! She is incredibly patient and she would talk me through what she was doing and then ask me to copy what she'd just done on my left hand side. I did most of the left hand side of my face all by myself and I must say I did a fairly good job. Brittany does an excellent job making you feel comfortable, competent and has so much experience. You can tell you're in the best hands.  I cannot wait till my next lesson! Take the guess work out of your make up application and go see Britt! -Crystal

Lessons are also a great gift! Inquire within if you wish to purchase a gift card for a friend, family member or co-worker!

Here is a little more info on lessons...

What to Bring for lessons:

Please bring your current makeup bag and brushes, even items you don't use on a daily basis. I like to look at everything to see if there is something you should be or shouldn't be using. I will provide you with a pen and note pad and I will draw a face chart to make things more visual for when you are at home looking over instructions.

I ask that you pick 3-6 topics to discuss. I can't promise that we touch on all of these topics as depending on what they are we could spend a full hour on one thing. Also, for the initial lesson I like to see where you are at start with something suitable for your skill level. Moving forward our lessons will be more dynamic and full of topics.

Idea's for topics:

- products that I should buy and incorporate into my daily routine

- skin care regime (as no makeup can be applied well on skin that is not well hydrated and cared for!)

- an everyday eye look

- a night time eye look

- bold lips (getting them perfect and long lasting)

- filling in brows

- applying false lashes

- contouring/highlighting (a whole lesson is needed for this topic)

- liquid liner application

… I could keep going but there is just a few to inspire your own ideas!

My Journey as a Makeup Artist

THE BEGINNING

I’ve loved everything to do with makeup for as long as I can remember. When I was in high school, I would do full applications for my friends for dances and proms. However, I felt as though my future was uncertain. I found that it was difficult to listen to my own dreams. After I graduated high school, I attended the University of Ottawa for a degree unrelated to makeup artistry. I began taking makeup even more seriously and started freelancing between classes. I had no professional training or certification and was charging below industry standard rates merely to gain experience and build my portfolio.

EDUCATION

After completing two years of my degree, I decided to focus on Makeup Artistry and Cosmetology. My family wasn’t exactly thrilled about my decision, but supported me nonetheless. It was at this point that I began blogging, which played an integral part in my career looking back. Being from London I had many friends and family there who followed and read my blog, passing it on to their friends and family and spreading the word. This was also happening in Ottawa, where I was living at the time.

I then attended the Ottawa Academy. My makeup artistry teacher there was amazing, she had worked for Stila cosmetics for quite some time as a pro artist and had many other professional credentials - she was awesome! I looked up to her and envisioned doing similar things. I saw the multitude of opportunities this industry had, as now she had slowed down, was pregnant, and teaching with a more regular schedule. I saw this career helping me do all the things I saw for my future, success in both my professional and family life.

WORK EXPERIENCE

After graduating I moved back home to London where I was hired at Sephora as a Colour Cast member. I learned so much working at Sephora, I gained product knowledge, learning how different textures and finishes work, lighting and wearability, application techniques and so much more. At Sephora, I was constantly doing makeup applications. I soon became Beauty Studio Captain and myself and a couple other artists were doing the majority of makeup applications. I would have to say that as a makeup artist the best way to improve your skills is to apply apply apply. Sephora and all the amazing people I worked with there taught me so much about this industry, myself and my skills as a makeup artist. Thank you Sephora White Oaks

Starting my own business had always a goal of mine, but I wasn’t sure how to get started. I still continued to blog and freelance when I could. Eventually, I decided to look for a job with a little more flexibility to work in my freelance clients. I wasn’t ready to be fully self-employed, but I knew that I was getting close. After I left Sephora, I began to promote myself via my blog and social media platforms. Things quickly began to take off and I was getting requests for weddings and events well in advance. I then got a job at Cake Beauty (a Canadian product sold within Sephora) as their National Educator. I traveled across Canada training all the Sephora cast members on the Cake product. Because I made my own schedule, I was able to accommodate more freelance clients.

After working for Cake from January to May (a slower time for makeup), my freelance work started to thrive. I could see that I no longer needed an additional income so I left my position with Cake. I started to book up into the following year during that same “slow period” and I could see that I was finally where I wanted to be.

REALIZING MY GOALS

That was over a year and a half ago and since then I have been self employed running my own business. Making my own hours, deciding my own income, and designing the life I want. This journey was by no means easy but it taught me so much about myself and what I’m capable of. I learned so much about this industry I love so dearly and I can’t wait to continue on. I am now booking into 2016, blogging for multiple outlets and running a successful social-media-present business and blog of my own.

In my opinion, in this industry working for yourself is where it’s at. But that is not to say that there aren’t so many amazingly cool and fun positions available If you are a person who is better at receiving a task and completing it. If you love to travel and live out of a suitcase, keeping busy and being on the go - so many job options out there. I on the other hand prefer to make my own rules.

Do what’s right for you and your personality strengths and weaknesses, life goals and ambitions and most of all happiness! That’s what it’s all about in the end :) Hope you guys enjoyed this post, because I truly enjoyed writing it

This was a topic I was also asked to discuss by one of the outlets I blog for, QC Makeup Academy. If you wish to check out the condensed version of this post or to look into their amazing courses offered click here!

A New Chapter...

Hey Guys!

For those of you who have visited my little home studio over the past (almost) two years of being self employed, you know it's been rearranged, redecorated and revamped. I love my little space and it has done me well during the beginning stages of my business. I am SO excited to announce that my husband and I will be moving this October to a cute little house fairly close to where we are now. At our new place I will have a full room and some more space to work with - very exciting!

I thought I would do a little post on my sweet little space, giving myself something to look back on and see the progress I've made. The same sort of style and vibe will carry over to my new space as I will be using some of the same decore and furniture and I want to stay true to my style. I always get so many comments and questions on where I get some of my decor so I will share that with you in this post!

This wall happens to be my favourite, it features this beautiful Tassel Garland from Studio Mucci. I absolutely LOVE all of their tassel garlands and I secretly want one for every room in my house. This particular one is called Sherbet Love Mini and happens to match my business colours perfectly. The white mirror is from Target and the empty frames are from Michael's Craft store.

This cozy corner is for my waiting clients, or friends and guests of clients to sit comfortably while waiting. I also love these prints by Stephanie Sterjovski...

One of my favourite places in my makeup room is my pin board filled with some of the beautiful thank you cards I have received over the years. Sometimes I look through these and am reminded of why I love my job so much...

Something else I am really going to miss about my studio is the view, looking out onto the city as I sit and blog, reply to emails at my desk or am doing a clients makeup. I love the sounds of the city and I am totally inspired by the hustle and bussle. Our new place looks out onto the river, which will inspire me in a whole new way :)

Thank you to all my amazing clients who have been with me since the beginning! And welcome to all my new clients who will continue on this journey of mine. Thank you for your support, this local female entrepreneur owes you the world! As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or to book me for your next event!

Leather Panelling DIY

Hey Guys!

Thought I'd get crafty again with a little DIY project involving leather and plaid - two of my favourite fabrics right now!

What you will need...

- an old plaid shirt (I got mine at Talize for $4.99)

- a piece of leather fabric (size depends on what size your want your leather pannel to be - I got 1 meter by 1 foot ish from Fabricland for about $16 with lots left over for another project)

- fabric glue that will work on thicker fabrics like leather. I used Quick Grip Permanent Adhesive Waterproof (got this a Fabricland for about $10)

- scissors

To get started... Fold the back of the shirt in half, with the fold running down the middle of the back.

Next up... Cut both sides folded together and create a triangle cut out on the back of the shirt.

Leaving the back of the shirt looking like this...

Then take the piece that you cut out from the shirt and lay it flat over the leather fabric.

Next up, cut out the shape leaving about 3/4 of an inch around the outside...

Now, lay the shirt on the back side with the inside of the shirt face up. Lay the leather piece on overlapping the triangle cut out. Apply the Quick Grip glue along the edge in a very thin line, pressing gently as you go.

Here is the finished product!

What I loved about this project is I have lots of fabric and glue left over to add leather to anything else in my wardrobe! Also, it took me about 10 minutes to do :)

Hope this inspires you to take something from your current closet or hunt for a piece from a thrift store and create a one of a kind fashion statement! Have a fabulous Sunday everyone :)

New Blog Look & Step by Step Eye!

Hey Guys!

I am so excited to release my new blog colour scheme! I wanted to lighten things up a bit and give you guys a new pretty place to come and look at my portfolio, tutorials, product reviews, step by step looks and more :) I hope you like it!

I would like to thank my good friend Edmond Huszar/Overwerk for always creating amazing new looks for my blog. If you have been following me for a while you have probably seen a few different looks and he as created ALL of them! He is so talented, and an amazing artist and musician - check out his work through the links above!

With that being said I also wanted to post a new step by step tutorial with the release of the new blog look. This is the eye look that I am wearing in my new pictures found under the Brittany section as well as all my new display pictures for Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter

Here is the look...

Here is the steps on how to create this eye look yourself!

1. Start with a clean freshly primed eye lid.

2. Apply a pink-gold shadow into the inner corner of the eye blending down around the tear duct. I used a Make Up For Ever Star Powder.

3. Then apply African Violet by Laura Mercier (gold-purple hue) all over the lid avoiding the pink-gold and just softly blending into it.

4. Apply a brow highlight of your choice, I used something with a pink iridescence which happens to be discontinued :(

5. Apply Blackberry and Sketch by MAC into the outer corner.

6. Deepen the very center of the crease with a matte black shadow, I used Carbon by MAC. Use a smaller brush to make sure you are just applying product to the very center of the crease.

7. Apply liquid liner and false lashes!

8. Apply Eye Bright by Benefit along the lower water line and smudge into the lashes.

There you have it! Super easy and very pretty :)

Hope you guys enjoyed that post as well as the new blog look! I would love to hear your feed back in the comments below or as always, feel free to contact me to book me for your next event or to simply ask a question!

Weekend Away in Niagara

Hi Guys!

This past weekend my husband, Kennedy and I went away to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary in Niagara! This time last year we were preparing to head off on our honeymoon. I did a blog post exactly one year ago all about our wedding and the different vendors etc. to read up on that post click here!

This weekend was amazing, we stayed right along the Falls (for two nights) but spent one day in Niagara on The Lake. We stayed at the Tower Hotel, located downtown Niagara Falls. Our room was beautiful, there wasn't many amenities to speak of but we got over that quickly. Saturday we spent the day gazing at the falls and taking lovely walks along the grounds, the landscaping and gardening was beautiful!

Later in the afternoon we went to the Butterfly Conservatory. We had both been there before for our grade 5 class trip but not again since! It was much more interesting as an adult with patience lol. We really enjoyed walking around the warm tropical oasis looking at all the beautiful butterflies and plants. Check out a video I took while I was there here! We spent the second portion of the afternoon walking up Clifton Hill enjoying some treats and looking at all the crazy tourist attractions. That night, we saw an awesome live performance and had a few too many drinks ;)

Sunday, we checked out of our hotel and headed to Niagara on the Lake for brunch at the Charles Inn. Needless to say, it was one of the best meals we have ever had. The old victorian home was a beautiful and romantic setting. I highly recommend it!

After brunch we headed downtown Niagara on the Lake and did some shopping! Whenever we go away we have a tradition of buying ourselves something timeless that we will use forever (it has to be the same thing, not the same style but same "thing"). This time it was hats! There was a beautiful shop called Beau Chapeau along the main road (Queen Street), we each picked up a beautiful hat (I will be doing a more thorough post on my hat and incorporating some fall fashion/beauty must haves - so stay tuned for that). Kennedy is sporting his below... There were so many adorable and unique shops! Just Christmas - was my heaven on earth!

Later that afternoon we headed back to London to meet my parents for Dinner at Sunningdale - where we had our wedding one year ago yesterday! It was a perfect end to a perfect weekend!

Vacation Must-Haves

Hey Guys!

We just got back from Cuba yesterday and had a fabulous time! Sometimes packing can be a little stressful for people "What will I need?" "Will I like this on once I get there?" "Have I packed enough?" the list of questions goes on and on. These are three things I ask myself while packing clothes...

1. Have I worn this in the last two months?

Because if you haven't, it's likely that you wont wear it on vacation.

2. Is it comfortable?

To me, comfort is extremely important. Especially on vacation, the worst is bringing a bunch of items that you actually find more trouble then they're worth. Usually comfort has a lot to do with fit. If something fits  well its usually very comfortable if it's too big here or too small there you may fidget with it, which is never comfortable.

3. How many ways can I wear this?

It's important to pack items that can be worn all together. I like to pack things that I know I can wear a couple times in different ways. Creating a new look each time.

Now for some of my must-have travel items...

Tide Travel Sink Packets

As I mentioned earlier, I like to make sure I'm able to wear one item with a few different outfits. Now you may not have to wash the item after wearing it depending, but just incase of a spill or excessive sweating its nice to have to option to do a quick hand wash if need be. I swear by these little guys, you just fill up the sink or bath with warm water and do a quick hand wash of a couple items, rinse and hang to dry.

Tide to-go Stick

Tide to-go sticks are a life saver! I always have one in my purse even when I'm not traveling. But they are especially essential when traveling. During a long day of eating meals on the go a little stain or spill is somewhat bound to happen. I absolutely hate walking around with a stain on my clothes so it's great having one of these on hand for a quick fix!

Beautifying Oil

I'm a moisturizing freak. Especially when I'm vacationing some where sunny. After a long day in the sun all I want to do is shower and drench myself in oil or moisture from head to toe. This Beautifying Oil from the Body Shop is SO convient and amazing. It can be used on your hair, body and face eliminating the need to pack three separate items! It comes in many different classic Body Shop scents. With a very affordable price point of $14 CAN for one bottle!

Jewellery Bag

I love to accessorize so cutting back on the jewellery I pack isn't really an option. But what is an option is packing it in a way that saves a ton of space and is super convient to sift through once you unpack. I have an amazing one from Stella and Dot that I received as a hostess gift for having a party. They sell a ton of great options, I love the Multicoloured Striped Jewellery Roll...

Manicure Set

If you are like me, before I go away I usually get a manicure and pedicure to ensure long lasting groomed nails. But the worst thing is getting a hang nail, breaking a nail, chipping a nail and having nothing to fix it with! So I always bring a little travel manicure set as well as a back of polish (either the colour that your nails are painted or one close to it, to fill chips or repaint if needed). Ton's of options for sets, check out some Sephora offers here.

Now, when it comes to makeup - some may be shocked by this - but I pack extremely light and only bring a few key items. This list only pertains to tropical trips/some where warm and relaxing. Where I know wearing a lot of makeup is just not what I want to do. Now if this was a trip to NYC or Boston, completely different story! I'd probably pack my whole kit ;)

These are the items I pack, click on each to see some of my favourites!

Tinted Moisturizer

Bronzer

Bronzy brown cream eye shadow (or a colour that suits you well)

Blush

Blush/Bronzer Brush

Eye brow powder/brush to apply it

Cream Highlighter

Mascara/Liquid Liner

...That's it!

Hope this helped you guys out and maybe gave you some ideas on what to pack for your next vacay! Happy long weekend my lovlies :) Thanks for reading!

Once the giveaway is over I will assign a number to each of your names, enter the data into random.org on their True Random Number Generator to ensure a fair and random draw.

This giveaway will be running from today, Wednesday March 27th, 2013 to Saturday April 27th, 2013!

Let's take a closer look...

1. Sheer light-weight beige scarf with coral accents, a value of $16.99 from Target. I love a sheer scarf for spring, perfect way to accessorize an outfit without being to warm. This scarf is large enough that it could also double as a beach wrap in the summer!

2. Sephora False Lashes in Celebrity with a value of $12.00. These are my favourite lashes from the Sephora collection. They give a nice amount of volume and length for everyday wear or a night out! I've worn them in a few of the looks I've posted previously :)

3. Cake Milk Made Velveteen Hand Cream with a value of $18.00. With the changing of seasons our skin tends to get very dry. With this luscious, vitamin rich formula... dry hands be gone! Another great quality about this hand cream is it's lightweight, non-greasy, fast absorbing finish. Great for someone busy and on the go!

4. My ALL-TIME FAVOURITE LIQUID LINER! This is the liner I've been using for ages, it's from Maybelline called Line Stiletto. It's what I use on all my looks I've posted. I get it in blackest-black and depending on when you buy it (shoppers always has different sales going on) it's value is about $10.99

5. Blinc mascara can be found at Sephora, this particular one is the beauty-to-go size (4g). Which is exactly half the amount of the full size. This is valued at about $15.00. "Blinc mascara forms tiny water-resistant "tubes" around lashes that cannot run smudge, clump or flake and slide off with a combination of water and gentle pressure" - a unique twist on mascara!

6. Essie Nail Lacquer in "bond with whomever" - a pastel purple lilacy shade which makes for a beautiful spring nail colour! I purchased this product for $8.99 at Target but you can also find Essie at Shoppers Drug Mart, Trade Secrets etc.

7. Three mini Bath and Body Works candles in fresh spring scents, Pineapple Orchid, Cherry Blossom and Garden Freesia. I am in love with candles and especially these three scents for spring! Value of $10.00

Still more...

8. Pinks are so in for this spring especially when it comes to make-up! Create a springy pink fresh eye look with this amazing palette from Lancome! It's their Color Design Palette in Rose Coquette 203 valued at $54.00

9. A 5ml sample size bottle of Couture La La from Juicy Couture valued at $15.99. This is such a pretty scent for spring...

Couture La La blends bright sparkling mandarin with bold white florals for a fragrance experience that captures the essence of femininity and daring allure of the unexpected.

10. TRESemme Volumizing Dry Shampoo. I am a dry shampoo freak, can't get enough! I'm always trying different kinds and seeing what else is out there. This is a travel size of 56g valued at around $3.99. Also great for a rainy spring day when your hair is feeling lifeless, give it some volume with this product!

Lastly, I'm also including a personalized iPhone case! The winner of the giveaway can let me know whether they would prefer a 4/4S case or a 5 :) Value of $20.00. If you love this case and want one for yourself let me know, I'm selling them for $20.00 :)

Bringing the total value of this giveaway to $185.95!!! Good luck to everyone, I wish you all could win!

I had the opportunity to donate a gift card for my services for a "treasure chest" being put together, raffle tickets will be sold with 100% of the proceeds going to the Street Connection program.

The Street Connection is a drop in centre for at-risk youth between the ages of 16-24. Mental heath issues are quite prevalent in our youth today and to be homeless or in an unsafe situation on top of that? - can't imagine. I plan to look for more charities involving youth, mental heath and local homelessness in the months to come. Any of you know of some great charities that support this cause?

If you would like to purchase tickets for this "treasure chest" that will be raffled off - let me know and I will put you in contact with the right person! There will be more information on everything in this "treasure chest" coming soon, my gift card being one thing in there! The gift certificate is good for a full application including false lashes! Again, all the proceeds from the raffle tickets will go to the Street Connection program.

Thanks for your support! Hope you all are enjoying your weekend :)

Toronto & Thrifting

Hey Guys!

I recently went to Toronto for the day with my Dad, sister and brother. We had a fabulous day! Went to a Raptors game - curtsy of my Mom - a Christmas gift for all of us. Raptors played the Lakers and won which was amazing to see!

Then we explored Kensington Market for a couple hours (which is where I came across the amazing find). Afterwards we headed to Uncle Betty's for dinner! All in all a great day. My sister introduced me to a thrift store called Bungalow in Kensington Village. I am in love! So many amazing gems and tons of unique pieces! This is my Dad on the left - what a cutie!?

I found this amazing denim jacket. When I saw it, it was love at first sight. I thought it was super unique and so versatile! So many ways to make it a new piece over and over again. I love finding pieces that you can work so deeply into your current closet with accessories, shoes etc.  This jacket was $75 and worth every penny!

Love the massive collar...

The side slits add a casual comfortable feel...

The pockets stole the show for me...

I love thrift shopping, you just gotta be in the mood to dig for good finds! Have any amazing vintage finds of your own? Know of some really cool vintage/thrift shops? Let me know below! oXo

Bar Tray

Hey guys!

Hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was busy/awesome and I've got the next few days off so stay tuned for lots of entries! Ok, so I want to talk about this trend that I totally thought I started but clearly didn't (I tend to do that sometimes oops). The "Bar Tray" - a tray filled with and array of glassware and liquor. I think this is a super simple, easy, affordable way to add a touch of chic to any home. Don't drink but think this look is super fab? I have a solution for you too! I have posted some pictures of what I've done with mine, but I plan on adding a lot more to it and looking for an actual bar cart. Something like this...

Now, for those of you who don't drink and don't usually have liquor in the house, you could totally do a bar tray/cart with tea! If you are a tea fanatic and love loose leaf teas and silk tea bags, you could create a beautiful tray with all the different fancy tea's. You can really get creative and create an adorable little tea bar! Something like this...

Here is the affordable little bar tray trend done in different ways that I adore! ...

Here is my little tray :) ...

1. These adorable tumblers were a Christmas gift from my sister and her boyfriend. They are "Countdown Glasses Set of Four" by Indigo at Chapters.

2/5. Recently my parents gutted out a bunch of glass ware and home decore so I snagged this crystal decanter as well as the two crystal snifters. There are some really pretty crystal decanters here at amazon.com - if real crystal isn't important to you, you can find regular glass ones anywhere!

3. This decanter was also apart of the Christmas gift I mentioned in #1, also by Indigo at Chapters! Check it out, it's now 66% off! "Perfect Scotch Decanter"

4. This martini shaker was a birthday gift from my good friend Michelle, she got it at Homesense

5. Snifters, mentioned in #2.

6. This tray came in a set with another one slightly smaller, I use the other one on my coffee table and I put books in it. They are so so pretty (more so in real life), they are glittery and twinkle very nicely - especially at night with lamps on! My sister-in-law, Morgan gave me these for my birthday! Here are some other really cool options from Pier One!

Do you guys like this trend? Would you create a bar tray of your own? Have other ideas of what kind of bar you could create or ideas in general? Comment below, I'd love to hear from you!

(The pictures that are not of my bar tray were found on Pinterest!

As of late...

Hey Guys!

Some exciting things have happened in the last month or so and I want to fill you in! Also just wanted to to chit chat about daily happenings as of late :)

I was able to really enjoy the holidays this year which was wonderful. As some of you may know I left my job at Sephora to peruse my own business. This Christmas was one of my favourites yet, got to see lots of friends and family! My sister who lives in Toronto spent a lot of time here in London over the holidays, as did two of my girlfriends one from Toronto and one from Ierland!

Christmas morning was lovely. It is mine and my husbands first married Christmas together so I made sure to make the morning special. I baked a bread pudding with a buttered rum drizzle which was a huge hit! I had my eye on this two-tone Michael Kors watch for a while and lucky me, my husband got it for me for Christmas! We spent a nice morning together opening our stockings and presents and then we head over to my parents house. Spending time at my parents house truly makes me feel in the Christmas spirit, so it was a great day to say the least!

I don't know about you guys but I love to dress up and plan an awesome night for new years eve! Not only do I get to celebrate new years but its also my birthday new years day so my friends and family always wish me happy birthday at midnight. This year a really good friend of mine hosted a new years house party which was tons of fun. After the ball dropped and everyone got their kisses in, then out came a birthday cake from my husband and friends, it was an amazing surprise!

I had some amazing clients for new years eve, some of which being my good friends! Was a very fun day of glamming and beautifying!

In the new year, I had an interview at Cake head office in Toronto to be their national trainer! Cake happens to be one of my favourite beauty brands and a product I've loved for years! To my readers who have been with me for a long time you have seen Cake pop up in lots of my posts I'm sure. If you wish to read some of the reviews I've done on my favourite Cake products, head over to the search engine and type in Cake! Anyways, I got the job which is sooo exciting! I will be traveling all over Canada training Sephora cast members on this awesome brand, super excited. It's also only about 4ish months out of the year so I still have lots of time to focus on my business and you, my clients! Once the new year hit I also started to cut back on sweets and try to get back to normal eating. I made a batch of healthy apple cinnamon oatmeal muffins with protein and have started drinking kale shakes every morning!

With a healthy step into the new year, my husband and I have decided to make trail hiking a weekly date with our puppy! There are some beautiful trails in and around the London area and we are planning on exploring all of them! On this walk, we took our pup Rosie and a big thermos of hot cocoa :)

Wishing you all a fabulous New Year!!! oXo

Winter Accessory Must-Haves

Some of my winter accessory must-haves...

1. Cute gloves. There are so many pairs of adorable gloves out there, find something that works for you, wether they go with your purse or coat or you just want them to stand out! I love these studded long gloves. I just picked up a pinky nude pair from H&M with a fur collar.

2. Loving a fur accent around the neck for winter. This one is an infinity fur scarf, super cute! I just got one like it from Arie.

3. Thigh high socks are a great way to stay warm but also look adorable. Love these over top of you regular tights or leotards with a pair of knee high boots! Really looks very layered and chic. I just picked up a grey pair at H&M

4. Wool fedoras are all over the place. I'm kicking myself because I was in Toronto not to long ago, at the stand alone Joe Fresh and they had a super cute one just like this and I didn't get it! Silly. I will have my eyes pealed for the next one I see, or maybe one of my loved ones will be so kind as to get me it for Christmas, who knows!! ;)

5. These are my staples all year round but I especially love the look in the winter. HUGE diamond or pearl studs. I think they look super fab and really put the finishing touch on your look.

6. A berry lip. Couldn't be more now and looks very wintery fresh, try some out and see what tone works best for you!

Makeup Room!

Hey Guys!

I just recently started re-organizing and re-decorating my makeup room. I thought I would share some of the neat things I found and ideas I had on how to do this! For those of you who love makeup and want to organize your personal collection a little better or for other makeup artists out there who need some inspiration! I know there are tons of youtube tutorials on different ways to organize your room but this is how I did mine!

First off I went to Solutions (my new favourite place). I checked to make sure they have a good return policy because I knew I wanted to buy a bunch of different things to see what worked and what didn't. Turned out, I used everything I bought and everything worked out perfectly!

They actually have a ton of cosmetic specific organizers which was awesome, go to their website and type in cosmetics or lipstick and they will all come up. I bought the "Lipstick Holder With 18 Spaces" ($13.99) as well as the nail polish holder.

Next up I wanted to organize my foundations. I actually used a "Letter Tray Organizer" ($9.99) for this and put my most used foundations, tinted moisturizers and primers face down in this. I was a bit worried about the bigger bottles fitting but everything did. I bought two of these.

I wanted a way to have my palettes out without taking up too much space, well my most used palettes anyways. So I grabbed the "File Rack" ($12.99) and I use this to stack my palettes in, the ones that are too short I just stand them upright. There were so many options for this, all sorts of file holders or magazine racks that could also work!

I wanted my most used lip glosses, lip liners, eye liners and mascaras close at hand so I bought four of the "Mesh Pencils Cups" (on sale for $3.99). Now the ones that I got have a little divider inside that splits the cube up into sections of four. These were on sale and they are not on the website so I think they are being discontinued but any of their pen holders will work! I bought about 6 of these and used the other ones in my big drawers to organize overflow. I also put my alchole bottles, makeup romover, setting spray ect. in another one.

I bought a couple "Mini 3 Drawer Organizer" ($9.99). I put my most used single eyeshadows, concealers, and setting powders in here. Love these!

All in all it was a very successful shop at Solutions and I totally recommend them or any other organizing storage store near you to complete your makeup room! Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below, I love hearing from you guys!
